Disc. Sept 24-30 Question 2

“The person who makes no mistakes usually makes nothing” (Harris pg. 248). Feedback is important for any group to grow and improve. The guidelines for providing feedback are to avoid generalization, focus on behaviors that need changing, do not debate or argue, do not micromanage, remember your role, accentuate the positive aspects, provide specific suggestions for improvement, be clear and concise, and compliment in public and criticize in private. It is important to follow all of these guidelines as an observer. Without following them, your feedback might not guide future behavioral change for the group. If you are too general, it won’t give the group direction. If you argue or debate, it will seem that you are imposing your ideas/opinions on the group, rather than reflecting and providing feedback. One of the more important guidelines that I took away was to compliment in public and criticize in private. If you do not compliment, people will begin to feel under appreciated and put in less effort. The same outcome goes when publicly criticizing group members.
